Upcoming AODA reporting deadline:
What you need to know

Organizations in Ontario with 50 or more employees are required to complete a review of their Multi-Year Accessibility Plan by January 1, 2020.

What your multi-year accessibility plan should accomplish

This plan should outline your strategies for removing and preventing barriers faced by persons with disabilities and comply with the accessibility standards under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). It must be posted on your website (if you have one), be provided in accessible formats upon request and be reviewed at least once every five years.

You can use Accessibility Standards PolicyPro® to learn how to create or review your plan. Log in or take a free trial to ensure your multi-year accessibility plan is on track!

Understanding the Accessible Employment Standard for Manitoba

The Accessible Employment Standard under The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA) aims to remove and prevent barriers in employment practices to meet the needs of employees and job applicants with disabilities.

Public, private and non-profit sector workplaces in Manitoba will be required to make accessibility and accommodation a regular part of their recruiting, hiring, managing, training and supporting process for employees. The compliance dates for the Accessible Employment Standard are as follows:

  • Manitoba government: May 1, 2020
  • Public sector: May 1, 2021
  • Private sector, NPOs and small municipalities: May 1, 2022

To help you better understand all your current and upcoming AMA obligations, The Human Resources Advisor™ (HRA) – Western Edition includes commentaries that cover the five accessibility standards for Manitoba. This includes extensive coverage of the Accessible Employment Standard and what your requirements are at each stage of the employment cycle.
