What your multi-year accessibility plan should accomplish

This plan should outline your strategies for removing and preventing barriers faced by persons with disabilities and comply with the accessibility standards under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). It must be posted on your website (if you have one), be provided in accessible formats upon request and be reviewed at least once every five years.

Understanding the Accessible Employment Standard for Manitoba

The Accessible Employment Standard under The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA) aims to remove and prevent barriers in employment practices to meet the needs of employees and job applicants with disabilities.

Public, private and non-profit sector workplaces in Manitoba will be required to make accessibility and accommodation a regular part of their recruiting, hiring, managing, training and supporting process for employees. The compliance dates for the Accessible Employment Standard are as follows:

  • Manitoba government: May 1, 2020
  • Public sector: May 1, 2021
  • Private sector, NPOs and small municipalities: May 1, 2022
